First of all, if you haven't joined the Students Against Facebook (Official Petition to Facebook) group yet, you should, as it's the largest group made for that purpose by far, and growing incredibly. How much so?

I clocked how many people joined after 15 seconds 5 timss . (Yeah I'm bored). I got 102, 99, 113, 102, and 94. Average is 102 for every 15 seconds, or 408 new members per minute.

How fast is that? Well, the largest facebook group ever is at a (rather stagnant) 840k. As of 1:12:00 PM, the petition group is at 274,110. At this rate, then, the petition will become the largest facebook group in 23 hours and 8 minutes, rounding up. After another 6 hours and 32 minutes, it will hit the million mark.

Pretty cool.

Update: Just for those who were wondering how legitimate the assumptions were, I checked the membership again at 1:50:00 PM, and it was at 290,841. So, in the 38 minutes since my last measurement, the average growth rate has actually been 440 new members per minute, larger than my initial estimate. Does that mean the growth rate is actually increasing? Who knows, maybe I'll check again later. And yes, I do have actual work to do.

EDIT: Also, Jason, I really don't see the option. And even if it's there, I don't think it turns off your own news feed, so other people can still so your activites. In any case, where is it anyway?

Update:
As of 6:50:00 PM, the number of members has reached 424,711. Over the last 5 hours, it's grown at an average rate of 446.333 members per minute. The growth rate is still increasing. Jesus. I also did another couple of 15 second clocks, and got 440 per minute and 484 per minute.

Update:
The growth rate has slowed down immensely, probably because it's almost four in the morning eastern time. However, it's still at 48 per minute last time I checked, with a total of 519,617 as of this writing, 12:54:20 AM.

Dear Facebook.com,

Now that you have your mini-feed feature, you're more stalkerish than ever.

Love,

It's about that time again...

School's starting soon. Kind of. For everyone else, basically, it's already started. I start in 4 weeks-ish. I'm a frosh camp counselor, which could either be really fun or really lame. I'm putting my money on really lame (no offense to my future froshies, but grouping math majors together is just a recipe for bad math jokes). We'll see.

So you're talking to this girl that you just met. What could be a great conversation killer? Here's one I just heard.

Girl: "Hey, do you know where any gay bars are?"

Guy: "... not really ..."

Luckily, this didn't happen to me. But I saw this, and it took all of my willpower to not bust out laughing. The girl actually was a lesbian, just in case you were wondering.

EDIT: On a completely unrelated note, this is hilarious:

Feels good to be free...

School's finally out for the year, and it's about damn time. Not that Caltech was getting to me or anything, but yeah, Caltech was definitely getting to me. I think I did well on my finals. I know my physics final, at least, was a lot better than I expected it to be. Grade-wise, though, it's really hard tell. So much rides on finals (30-40% in every class) that it's hard to really tell what grade you're going to get before you actually get it.
